Còn duyên: intro song of Water Puppetry Theatre

Let’s switch play on the player on the bottom of this post!

The title of the song you’re hearing is Còn duyên.

It is a Vietnam folk song, and it is the first song that you hear when you enjoy a Water Puppets Show at the Vietnam Puppetry Theatre.

“The puppets have a soul” says Nguyễn Hữu Qúy, “Half of their soul is music.”.

What did he mean?

Puppets are not actors. Their faces have one expressions and they have no voice.

Therefore, the sounds have to fill this lack, playing a lead role in the communication of emotions.
